Why the toss matters more than most readers think.
On dry turners, the toss is the single biggest captaincy variable. The side batting second usually gets the easier surface in the second innings — but only when dew is light. When dew is heavy, the chase gets harder, not easier.
Our default is to flag the toss as a captaincy variable for every night fixture, and a non-variable for every day fixture where the ball doesn't swing or grip.
