Step 1

Spin-led captain

On a slow turner, the captain is the spin pick with the highest ceiling. Pace-led captaincy loses on the same deck.

Step 2

Role-locked XI

Lock the role balance first. Three to five batters, one to three all-rounders, three to five bowlers with at least two spin options.

Step 3

All-rounder trap

Avoid punting both captain and vice-captain on all-rounders. The trap is real: if pace doesn't fire, both spots lose at once.
